Architectural projection

"Form: Absent & Present" - Chris White (UK)

Line – Texture – Decay – Minimalism – Old – New – Light - Dark – Periphery

These themes are all a starting point for his ideas. Chris enjoys the process of discovering all that the world has to offer and the juxtapositions that can be made by combining old with new. His interest in form and how time impacts on structure and surface will be the main focus for his treatments. Chris creates graphic art that celebrates the beauty of decay. Projecting thoughts onto a surface that has aged and decayed and is no longer of value to commerce in its current state of entropy that invite the audience to engage, interpret and reflect on their own being.

Many of his influences artistically stem from Japanese “Wabi-Sabi” sensibility and the quest for harmony between line, form, process, old and new. All of his designs stem from a keen interest in the understanding and refinement of the design cycle. As we grow older we learn from our experiences and the cycle of life and embed these values to create our own vernacular.

Photograph of Chris WhiteAs part of his own practice Chris enjoys combining a range of media for various platforms and formats including video art, light sculpture, graphic design, sound -sculpture and installation art. Chris very much enjoys collaborating with other creative people and is very excited to be part of the festival.

Working on bespoke site-specific products such as this is a very enjoyable and challenging process. Using a mix of collage, texture, layered video and calligraphy Chris intends to develop and create abstract and literal sequences on a given theme. He works with analogue and digital platforms to create art that reacts, stimulates, supports, educates and hopefully inspires. Many of his artworks use found quotes that are aimed at developing personal happiness and promote a more proactive state of mind.

I asked a friend once “what is the best piece of design that you have done?” and his reply was – “I haven’t done it yet.” I like to think that way about what I design and I am also endeavoring to live my life in the same way.

Chris's passion for abstract non linear art forms encourages him to find and explore new ways in which to communicate through print and screen based medias. He is particularly excited about how things decay and become transformed by time and the elements. As we grow we change and learn from our experience and the environment around us. Chris documents these changes and creates abstract and literal interpretations of the world around him.Other elements of his work and study involve pattern, line, dot and the relationships between them. Music also plays an important part in his work and how it relates to the visual language he uses and develops.

Chris has extensive experience in producing and performing using Video Art for many major music festivals, dj's and music producers internationally. His work has expanded recently to being part of the Punto y Rya Festival in Madrid and also selling and making his video content which can be viewed online.

Chris is currently a lecturer in Graphic Design and Screen Media at Hereford College of Arts in the UK and enjoys the process of refining, teaching and sharing design and its many processes.  Chris is fully committed to developing his craft and sharing skills and practice with students to inspire and create artistic dialogue.
